Steve came in--panting slightly--with the last of the grocery run. There had been a note on the calendar that helpfully told him that he and Tony were apparently hosting a cookout tonight (!) and between them, they had zero cooking skills.

...this would not change as they got older, no, but it came as more of a shock now. "Okay," he said. "I got hot dogs and buns and every kind of potato chip they had. That should be enough, right?"

"I'd totally do the same for you," Tony promised.

"You'd fuss," Steve said with a wry smile.

"I'm supposed to." At least that's how he'd pictured having a relationship would be.

Steve gave him a quick kiss on the cheek. "I don't need to be fussed over."

"Why not?" Tony asked, grinning to himself as he tried to sort of organize the massive amount of chips they had.

"I'm not good at accepting fussing," Steve admitted.

"I'll make it up to you with kisses," Tony offered, sort of stuttering over the last word as he thought better of offering more than that. Because going past that was just anxiety city.

Judging by the way Steve's face had gone first white, then scarlet, sticking to kisses was an excellent idea.

"How many kisses?" Steve asked, biting his lower lip and glancing up from under his extremely ridiculous eyelashes.

Tony was feeling super lucky that Steve wasn't pushing for more past that. So that was where they were at.

"One for each time I fuss?"

Steve smiled. "That's a lot of kisses."

Tony just raised his eyebrows at him to silently ask if that was a problem.

"We could start now?"

So no. Not a problem.

"When did I fuss?" Tony asked, still leaning in for a kiss obediently.

[heroic_jawline]

"Coming up the steps," Steve told him, giving him a kiss and letting it linger slightly, feeling Very Daring.

So very daring! Tony was suitably impressed by it.

"You wheezed. You got the inhaler, right?"

That was probably worth another kiss there.

Steve rolled his eyes. "And my asthma cigarettes."

Which would help with nothing!

STEVEN GRANT ROGERS.

"Your what?"

[heroic_jawline]

"Asthma cigarettes?" Steve said. "I smoke them and they help me to breathe. They're around here somewhere," he muttered, patting his pockets and frowning.

"That's not a real thing." It couldn't be a real thing, right?

[heroic_jawline]

"Of course it's a real thing," Steve said, frowning. "Ma got them from the hospital."

[imafuturist]

"No, those things give you cancer and stuff," Tony said, giving him such a frown.

[heroic_jawline]

"Like I'll live long enough to get cancer," Steve said a little wryly.

Tony made a distressed noise, yanking him into a kiss. "You are gonna be fine. I'm taking you to the hospital after this party."

[heroic_jawline]

"I'm not sick now," Steve huffed when he finally pulled back. "I've just not got what they call a hearty constitution."

"Let's keep it in the non-sick area," he huffed right on back.
