Tony & Steve's apartment in the Stark Tiny Tower, Wednesday mid-morning

Steve and Tony had returned from Steve's dimension at an ungodly time that morning and had almost immediately collapsed into bed. (Patriot had been ecstatic to see them home and so Steve'd had to take him for a long walk to get those wiggles out. At three in the morning. Patriot owed him. So did Tony.) Steve had, for once, forgone his pre-dawn run and was still in bed as the clock's numbers read 10:00.

He finally opened his eyes with a tiny groan. His stomach let out a much less tiny rumble in reply. Time to get up.

"I think that's worse," Steve said. "Why are they still here?"

"People are stupid," Tony ventured. That was a perfectly valid explanation to him.

"I do not understand the comfort authoritarianism gives some," Steve admitted quietly.

"You and me both," Tony said, making a face. "But I tend to have issues with authority sometimes."

Sometimes, Anthony?

"Only sometimes?" Steve teased lightly, smiling at the hopeful little nose trying to levitate onto the bed that smelled like bacon.

"I'm a very good team member," Tony insisted.

That nose was just going to keep on shifting closer and closer to the portion of the bed where the food was.

Steve kissed his nose. "You are a very active and engaged team member," he agreed. Which was not always the same thing.

"Thank you." Tony either didn't notice or was graciously ignoring that. "But you're team is working together again."

That was a definite upside.

Steve smiled. "It is," he agreed. "It felt good."

"Think it'll change things with the whole Accords thing?" That might have also been too heavy a topic for this. But there they were.

"Tony was working on unraveling it--or Ross--as fast as he could, but it's slow work to shift the entire world, too," Steve admitted.

"Good thing you're not one to back down from a challenge," Tony remarked with a little grin.

[heroic_jawline]

Steve grinned back. "I'm not," he agreed. "The Accords were implemented incredibly badly."

"This mean you're thinking about politics?" he teased. "I don't know if I'm First Gentleman material."

Steve laughed and shook his head. "I'm too blunt for that."

"You? Blunt? Never," Tony said, laughing with him.

[heroic_jawline]

"Maybe a little blunt," Steve said, tossing a piece of bacon into the corner of the room. Patty scrabbled after it.

Tony yawned again, clutching his coffee a little closer. "I'm glad we were able to find Rhodey safe."

"Me too," Steve said. "It's thanks to you that we even knew he was lost."

[imafuturist]

"My paranoia paid off here." This once. Don't get ahead of yourself, though.

Steve smiled and held out a forkful of potatoes. "Preparedness."

"Same thing!" Tony said, happily taking the offered bite.

[heroic_jawline]

"It's being prepared when it actually gets used," Steve decided.

Tony hummed. "I'm still making you an environ suit."

Because.

Steve leaned in to give him a soft kiss. "I appreciate it."
