Tony & Steve's apartment in the Stark Tiny Tower, Wednesday mid-morning

Steve and Tony had returned from Steve's dimension at an ungodly time that morning and had almost immediately collapsed into bed. (Patriot had been ecstatic to see them home and so Steve'd had to take him for a long walk to get those wiggles out. At three in the morning. Patriot owed him. So did Tony.) Steve had, for once, forgone his pre-dawn run and was still in bed as the clock's numbers read 10:00.

He finally opened his eyes with a tiny groan. His stomach let out a much less tiny rumble in reply. Time to get up.

"Me too," Steve said. "It's thanks to you that we even knew he was lost."

"My paranoia paid off here." This once. Don't get ahead of yourself, though.

Steve smiled and held out a forkful of potatoes. "Preparedness."

"Same thing!" Tony said, happily taking the offered bite.

"It's being prepared when it actually gets used," Steve decided.

Tony hummed. "I'm still making you an environ suit."

Steve leaned in to give him a soft kiss. "I appreciate it."

"And hopefully you'll never need it, but..." It'll still be around.

Steve nodded. "I trust your tech more than the yellow suit I was in."

"I can also make you a space suit if you want."

Tony, no.

[heroic_jawline]

"I don't need a space suit," Steve said, then frowned lightly. "That's something that's been bothering me. Fury was supposed to be finding the Skrulls a new home. Do we have more advanced space tech than I'm aware of? How else would he find a new planet?"

"Is there a a SWORD group hidden somewhere?" Tony asked. No, no. They went with SABER in Steve's world. "I could ask Carol about any tells since she's been working with them lately."

Steve's forehead wrinkled. "I've never heard of SWORD."

"This SHIELD, but in space." That made perfect sense to Tony.

[heroic_jawline]

"SHIELD should not be in space, unless it's with Carol," Steve said. "Or Rhodey." He paused. "There's no way we have a Carol, right?"

"I mean, they ended up having Skrulls," Tony pointed out. "She got her powers because of Skrulls and the Kree getting into a pissing contest."

"The Krees are why the Skrulls live here, right?" Steve checked. "They can't shapeshift too?"

[imafuturist]

"No, they're blue. Sometimes. But mostly just look like us otherwise."

SPACE WAS WEIRD.

"Why only sometimes?" Steve asked faintly.

[imafuturist]

"I think it's like how we have different skin tones?" Or lazy writing.

[heroic_jawline]

"So they range from peach to blue?" Steve thought about that. "Huh. Interesting."

"Made it easy for them to also infiltrate the planet," Tony replied. Because aliens gonna alien.

Steve huffed. "Of course they would," he muttered. "It's getting difficult to be welcoming."

"We're the new kids on the galactic block and everyone wants to make a play for us," Tony said with a little sigh.

"Why now?" Steve asked.
