Tony & Steve's apartment in the Stark Tiny Tower, Wednesday mid-morning

Steve and Tony had returned from Steve's dimension at an ungodly time that morning and had almost immediately collapsed into bed. (Patriot had been ecstatic to see them home and so Steve'd had to take him for a long walk to get those wiggles out. At three in the morning. Patriot owed him. So did Tony.) Steve had, for once, forgone his pre-dawn run and was still in bed as the clock's numbers read 10:00.

He finally opened his eyes with a tiny groan. His stomach let out a much less tiny rumble in reply. Time to get up.

"The Krees are why the Skrulls live here, right?" Steve checked. "They can't shapeshift too?"

"No, they're blue. Sometimes. But mostly just look like us otherwise."

SPACE WAS WEIRD.

"Why only sometimes?" Steve asked faintly.

"I think it's like how we have different skin tones?" Or lazy writing.

"So they range from peach to blue?" Steve thought about that. "Huh. Interesting."

"Made it easy for them to also infiltrate the planet," Tony replied. Because aliens gonna alien.

Steve huffed. "Of course they would," he muttered. "It's getting difficult to be welcoming."

"We're the new kids on the galactic block and everyone wants to make a play for us," Tony said with a little sigh.

[heroic_jawline]

"Why now?" Steve asked.

[imafuturist]

"We're worth their time?" Tony suggested. "I'm not sure."

The other Tony had Some Opinions if Ultron was any indication.

"There isn't way to put up a no soliciting sign on the planet, right?" Steve asked.

Tony snorted, pressing a kiss to Steve's shoulder for that. "I wish. It'd certainly keep things much calmer."

"But we can't have that," Steve agreed, offering another bite of breakfast food.

Ton hummed around the bite. "We caught it in time."

Hopefully.

"You really think so?" Steve asked earnestly. "I hope so, and getting the team double checking Nick can only be a good idea."

"Which lets them work together again." And hopefully not fight again.

"You're really cheering for my team, aren't you?" Steve asked, smiling.

[imafuturist]

"I like seeing my friends succeed," Tony murmured, snuggling into Steve's side. Because it made him all kinds of anxious to see a version of his team break apart like that.

Steve set his food down so he could hug Tony properly. "I'm glad Tony has his Rhodey back."

"Has he said anything to you?" Because maybe things were improving there too!

[heroic_jawline]

"Not much, but I'm hopeful," Steve said with a tiny smile. "He wasn't avoiding eye contact or making unnecessarily cutting comments at the last meeting."

"And all without using me as a buffer," he teased.

Steve's cheeks went pink. "I'm trying to get better about that, too."

[imafuturist]

"Doing a great job," Tony assured him.

[heroic_jawline]

Steve blushed more, pleased. "I am?"
