Stark Tower but Smallish [Sunday afternoon]

It had been weirdly awkward between Steve and Tony since the emotional baggage day. Tony had been working in the lab, Steve had been eating all the Moobyburgers working out, restocking the cheese fridge, and checking in with his colleagues at home.

But today, Father's Day, Steve was giving Tony another hour before going into the lab and dragging Tony out, feeding him, and making him talk. He missed them being them.

"I love you too," Steve whispered.

Tony reached back to pat him on the hip, humming. "You're the best husband ever," he finally managed. "You know that?"

Steve laughed. "I'm glad you think so."

"Best," Tony repeated, dislodging Steve as he twisted around to kiss him.

"Hello, my darling one," Steve said because his brain wasn't entirely online again.

"Hi," Tony said, fond and as mellow as he ever got.

"Feeling better?" Steve asked.

"Yeah," Tony said, sheepishly hiding his face in the crook of Steve's neck and shoulder.

"Don't hide from me," Steve said with a smile. "I'm yours."

"I am an idiot," Tony sighed. "And I'm sorry that I just... went a little crazy there."

"I worried," Steve said, holding on tightly. "I didn't know what I'd done."

"I don't... I'm bad about hiding things that hurt. I know that." Didn't make it any easier to fix.

Steve kissed Tony's shoulder. "It'll be a process," he agreed. "I really am sorry."

"I fix things. I'm a fixer. A mechanic," Tony sighed. "And I can't just fix myself."

Steve kissed the other shoulder.

Tony let out a sigh, clinging to him a little more. This was terrible and he hated having to think about it.

"I'm not going anywhere," Steve murmured.

"I don't like failing," Tony grumbled. "Especially you."

"You have never failed me," Steve said firmly.

Tony pressed a kiss to his neck. It was so much easier to talk about things like this.

"I hope that's always true."

"I will love you even if it's not," Steve said quietly.

[imafuturist]

"Yeah?" Tony asked just as quietly.

[heroic_jawline]

"Don't try to be perfect," Steve said, meeting Tony's eyes. "Just be you. Trying to be perfect is exhausting."

Tony closed his eyes and let out a little sigh. "I'll do my best."

Steve kissed him softly. "Your best is more than enough."
