It was Tony's birthday, so Steve had splashed out by getting delivery from Delmonico's (a restaurant so old and posh that it had been around even longer than him): porterhouse steaks, crab ravioli, and a giant thing of fried onions because Steve had been hungry when he'd placed the order. And a baked Alaska because it sounded very fancy to Steve, placed safely in the freezer to be set on fire later.

He glared down at his feet. "Patriot, I love you, but not enough to feed you Tony's porterhouse. Back off."

The puppy was undeterred. Surely if he looked cute enough, he'd get a piece?

"Tony! Dinner!"

"Subways are not sexy," Steve said firmly.

"Neither are alley ways," Tony agreed. "Not outside of some very bad life choices."

Steve nodded vehemently. "I mean, I've gotten beaten up in most of the alleys in Brooklyn--"

"See, we have very different ideas of bad choices," Tony said with a laugh.

"What were yours?" Steve said, smiling.

"Bad friends, drinking, and--" He made a face, looking away from Steve. "--probably a few illicit substances."

Steve chuckled. "Afraid I'm going to launch into my public service announcements?"

"Well." Maybe? "It wasn't my proudest."

Steve kissed his cheek. "You're not using them now?"

"Do you count coffee?" he asked dryly.

[heroic_jawline]

Steve laughed. "No. Not for you."

[imafuturist]

"Well, there you go," Tony replied, relaxing a little bit. "Maybe I should have just joined a fight club or something instead."

"Another bad idea in an alley," Steve teased.

"Would've had something more in common with you then," he teased right on back.

Steve nudged his nose against Tony's. "We could exchange best practices for black eyes."

Tony huffed out a laugh. "Oh, those I figured out. No worries there."

"I still haven't figured out the ducking part," Steve said ruefully.

"I'll be sure to stock up on ice-packs," he promised, kissing Steve with a laugh. And then kissing him again and again like he couldn't help himself with how adorable the man was being.

"Hi there," Steve replied, laughing and kissing him back. "Fake dates really doing it for you?"

"I happen to enjoy all dates with you, Rogers." Shocking no one.

Steve smiled sweetly at him. "Even the one one the subway where we were five hours late to Jan's?"

"It was exciting?" It smelled bad and was cold, actually.

"Well, we did get hot dogs after," Steve said, grinning.

"You're a sucker for those dirty water hot dogs," Tony granted him. Oh, because Tony wasn't or something.

"I don't trust people who don't have the stomach for 'em," Steve teased.
