Why even have an abandoned warehouse district if not to attract monologuing, costumed bad guys?

Example number 457, for instance: Crossbones! His face was hidden! His costume was badass! His jeans were inexplicably low cut and there was just no explaining the Janet Jackson concert tee over the entire thing but it wouldn't come off and so he was dealing. He'd made a valuable alliance based on shared loathing with...okay, beggars maybe couldn't be choosers but Flying Head in a Box Dude seemed to really hate Stark, so that could only be a good thing!

Crossbones climbed to the top of a handy warehouse, shot his gun into the air--as you do-- and yelled: "CAPTAIN AMERICA. WHERE ARE YOU HIDING, YOU ASSHOLE? DON'T LEAVE ME HANGING, PAL. WHEN I GET BORED, I FIND THINGS TO BREAK. PEOPLE TOO."

And then he waited.

Which meant that MODOC was angrily sending out a psychic attack to all three of them over this impudence! How dare Crossbones not follow his very reasonable demands to fight in his stead.

Steve tried to shake off the headache over Crossbones screams and curses as he grabbed his own head.

"You son of a bitch!" Crossbones yelled, turning his weapon towards MODOC.

So that alliance was over.

"Steve!" Tony said, taking a pot shot at MODOC with one of the repulsors until the psychic blasts had to stop in favor of a force field being erected to keep his creepy self safe.

"I'm good," Steve called back. "How do you beat this guy? Crossbones is easy."

"Oh, he's really more of an annoyance than anything," Tony said, really letting that disdain set MODOC off so he dropped the psychic shield with a shriek of rage. And then Tony charged up the unibeam loudly before hitting him square in the face and sending him careening off into the distance.

"Nice one," Steve said.

He turned on Crossbones, eyes narrowing. "And now for you. You caused me all kinds of problems."

"Oh, God, am I getting a Cap lecture?" Crossbones demanded. "Shoot me off the building before that. Jesus."

"Gladly," Tony said, blasting him off the roof next. "THAT WAS FOR THE TERRIBLE BEER."

"And the protein mix," Steve added, watching him go. "I'm...sure he'll be fine."

"So, weird holiday stuff?" Tony said, glancing down at where Crossbones totally landed in a convenient dumpster.

"Gifts we never wanted?" Steve guessed. "Or houseguests or something?"

"Maybe?" Tony ventured. "But why was MODOC wearing a pinkish sash?"

It was a crop top, you heathen!

"It was definitely eye catching," Steve said. "He doesn't normally do that?"

"No, no, no. That would have been part of the description," Tony assured him.

[heroic_jawline]

Steve laughed. "Wouldn't that make the acronym unwieldy?"

"The 'for' should do that anyway," Tony replied. "But, ah, didn't Crossbones blow up back home for you?"

Steve made a face. "Yeah. Started off that whole terrible week."

Tony reached over to touch his shoulder for that. "Okay, so we check around and see if it's happening to other people."

"See if other people are wearing strange pink outfits," Steve agreed.

"That is still so weird!"

[heroic_jawline]

"And a little bit scarring," Steve said. "Like Crossbones' jeans."

"Those look like something I would have worn when I had a perm," Tony replied, frowning a little.

Steve laughed. "That was a look," he agreed. "That was when, college?"
