Kitty & Clint's Living Room, Sunday morning

After spending exactly as long as could be considered polite at Annie and Deigo's wedding (and leaving a blender), Steve made his way to Clint and Kitty's house, took an extremely hot shower (sorry, Clint and Kitty's water bill) and passed out on the sofa.

He hadn't had a proper night's sleep in probably two weeks.

Well, hopefully he was prepared for Tony to come find him.

As a cat.

Also, by hacking up a hairball onto his chest in greeting.

"Oh my God," Steve groaned, opening his eyes. "What is this?"

There was a reason he was a dog person.

Tony made a displeased noise and very much put all his weight onto one paw somehow to step onto Steve's chest.

"Mmmmmrf," Steve gasped. "You're heavy for a cat."

Tony mrrowled in a distinctly unhappy way, getting into his face. Which was, again, very much a cat thing to do.

He did, however have engine grease on his paws that was just getting all over Steve's shirt.

Steve glanced down and sighed. "Did you mess up my shirt on purpose to go with whatever you hacked up?"

Give him a second. He'd get there.

Would Tony's unimpressed meow help? Or the look he was giving Steve maybe.

Oh, he was definitely feeling judged.

"...Tony?"

Tony meowed again, placing a grease covered paw on Steve's face in response to that.

"Well, at least you're touching me," Steve said. "Hi. Lab experiment gone wrong?"

Tony mowed again, shoving in to curl up directly in the crook between Steve's neck and shoulder. It was only a little smothering.

Clint was as quiet as he could be coming downstairs to make coffee. He set out an extra mug for Steve just in case, but if he didn't want any, hey, more coffee for him.

Steve cracked an eye open. The smell of coffee was really compelling. "Morning," he said.

"Morning. Did you sleep okay?" Clint asked. "It's a good napping sofa, at least."

"It's a swell napping sofa," Steve agreed. "Thanks so much for letting me crash on it."

Kitty had been trying to keep Lexi quiet, which eventually meant she was carrying her in, whispering, "Can you whisper?"

"You don't need to," Steve said with a tiny smile. "I'm sleeping in the middle of play time, huh?"

"Every time is play time," Kitty said. "How are you doing this morning?"

[heroic_jawline]

"Feeling slightly more human," Steve said. "Super serum saves the day again. Thanks for letting me stay here. I want to give Tony the space he asked for."

"So how bad is it?" Kitty asked, putting Lexi down.

[heroic_jawline]

"Well, neither Tony is currently talking to me, I had to break some other Avengers out of a floating prison and they're now on the run, and Bucky volunteered to put himself in cryostasis again. About as bad as I can imagine, really."

[throughaphase]

"That is bad," Kitty agreed. "But sounds like it could all be fixable."

Maybe not immediately.

"Not until the Accords are fixed," Steve said softly. "There were two separate but intertwining problems."

[throughaphase]

"Does it look like the Accords will get fixed anytime soon?" she asked gently, curious.

[heroic_jawline]

"Not immediately, no," Steve said. "The United Nations moved ridiculously quickly on it and making them move quickly two times in a decade seems...unlikely."
