Above Stark Industries, Saturday morning

Steve woke up swimming in his pajamas--not really new--and warm--which was new. He blinked his eyes open, glanced around and then padded out into the kitchen. "Hello?" he called as he opened the huge icebox, which was full of food.

"Anyone here?" he asked, pulling out eggs (why were they being kept cold? So weird) and milk and fruit and carefully avoiding the giant bottle labeled "protein drink" which sounded super icky.

"Only if you're better than me at it," Steve said, smiling back.

Hey, Tony was sort of okay with being possibly kidnapped here. Because he was making friends darn it.

"I'll start the toast." As that was the thing he'd end up ruining the least. Also, he didn't understand the need for coffee yet.

"And you can try the weird milkshake first, too," Steve offered.

"Okay." BECAUSE TONY TRUSTED YOU, STEVE. TRUSTED YOU TO NOT LEAD HIM ASTRAY.

He nodded, grabbing one of the 'milkshakes to inspect before taking a sip. And making the most horrified face ever at it.

"Not good?" Poor, innocent Steve replied.

Tony continued making that face as he shook his head and shoved it in Steve's direction. To share his pain, you see.

"It can't be that bad," Steve said. "Ma makes me eat liver."

"I think most moms do that," Tony said with the knowledge that his own did. The fanciest damn liver possible.

But it was still liver and therefore disgusting.

Steve took a sip of the protein shake, made a face, and kept drinking.

Depression Era. If there was food, you ate it.

Tony stared at him like this was some sort of magic trick. Some horrifying magic trick.

Steve shrugged. "Not allowed to be picky."

"Or you get sent to your room?" Tony ventured.

[heroic_jawline]

"Or I don't eat that time," Steve said.

[imafuturist]

Tony looked at the glass that held the terrible milkshake for a moment before settling on, "I'm going to make you toast."

And then have some rich people guilt. IT WAS STARTING YOUNG.

"I like toast," Steve assured him. "We can put the eggs on them!"

Fancy!

Tony brightened at that. "We could! Is there bacon?"

[heroic_jawline]

"Maybe?" Steve said, opening the icebox back up and staring at basically a drawer full of bacon. "Wow!! There's LOTS!"

Perils of living with a supersoldier: protein in all the forms.

It was a shame that Tony was much too young to know or understand any jokes concerning that. A real shame.

"Can we make that too?" They would undoubtedly managed to burn and undercook it at the same time.

"Well, some of it," Steve agreed. "Then we can have some for lunch and dinner!"

So healthy.

Tony bit his lip wondering if someone would come find them before then and sort of hoping they wouldn't.

"Okay. It'll be fun. Like going away to school," he decided with a nod.

"You can do that?" Steve said. "I just walk down to the local one."

He shoved the eggs to the side of the pan and plopped a couple of pieces of bacon in because those would totally be ready at the same time.

"I live at my school," Tony said, watching him cook with far too much fascination before remembering he needed to start the toast.

[heroic_jawline]

"Ooooh," Steve said, deeply impressed. He scooped the slightly scorched eggs onto a plate and then added more bacon to the pan.

Because bacon.

"It's not that fun," Tony assured him, shoving some aggressively healthy, wholegrain bread into the toaster. Because the bad for you bread was hidden away out of shame.

"Because of your mean friend?" Steve guessed. "There are some of those guys on the walk to school, too."
