Above Stark Industries, Saturday morning

Steve woke up swimming in his pajamas--not really new--and warm--which was new. He blinked his eyes open, glanced around and then padded out into the kitchen. "Hello?" he called as he opened the huge icebox, which was full of food.

"Anyone here?" he asked, pulling out eggs (why were they being kept cold? So weird) and milk and fruit and carefully avoiding the giant bottle labeled "protein drink" which sounded super icky.

"I don't think he's in the phone book," Steve said.

"Everyone's in the phone book," Tony replied like it was obvious.

"Ma and I don't have a phone," Steve said.

So there, Tony.

Okay, that made no sense, okay? None.

"How?"

Steve shrugged. "There's only one in the building."

"In the whole building?" Tony asked, voice going high in confusion. "How do you call people then?"

"Normally by openin' the window and hollering," Steve said.

"No one would hear you!" Tony lived in a mansion with large grounds surrounding it. Because he was rich. Rich, you see.

"Course they do," Steve said. "Widow Mooney's got ears like a bat and is the biggest gossip on the block. She knows where everyone is."

"...we have a maid like that," Tony admitted.

"You have a maid?!"

Steve was so impressed.

"Just a few." Which made it better.

"A few?!" Steve squeaked. "Are you a Rockefeller or something?"

"I'm a Stark," Tony said, wrinkling his nose at how old fashioned Steve was.

"Never heard of 'em," Steve said. "And I read the papers."

Before stuffing them into too-big shoes. Cough.

Stop being poor and sad, Steve. God.

"Which papers?"

"The Times, the Tribune and the Daily Eagle," Steve rattled off.

"...what's the Daily Eagle?" It was way before his time, okay?

"The best newspaper in Brooklyn," Steve proclaimed loyally.

Don't say it, Tony.

"But it's Brooklyn."

Damn it, Tony.

"HEY!" Steve said, outraged.

And after he fed you bacon!

"The Bugle is better. My mom says so."

Because they wrote nice things about her functions.

Steve's sense of self-righteousness fought against the power of someone's mom saying so.

"Maybe they can be tied?"

Mothers were a powerful force. Maybe not as powerful as a HYDRA crafted metal arm...

Too soon? Too soon.

"I guess." But Tony sounded dubious because he didn't really think the Eagle existed.

"I'll take back the bacon," Steve threatened.
