Tony's Mansion, New York, Saturday afternoon

Steve had two puppies in cones of shame skittering over wooden floors and an ice pack over one of his eyes as he flopped onto the sofa in Tony's massive mansion living room.

"Who sells the information about puppies getting spayed to Hydra?!" he demanded, his outrage still high despite this being at least the fifth time he'd asked the question.

"Nazis," Tony answered once again, sighing as he paid for the property damage to the vet clinic.

"At least it wasn't AIM?" Steve said, lifting the ice pack off of his face.

"At least," Tony agreed, finally sitting next to him. "At least no one else got pulled into the drama."

The rest of the team still in town were off on their own solo adventures. Like you do in this city.

"I don't want anyone else catching a front desk," Steve agreed.

Fee and Libby, heedless of how cumbersome the cones were, both tried to be lap dogs on Tony's lap.

"I don't know, I think the Hulk would have had some fun with it," Tony said, trying to pet them both at the same time and just getting covered in fur. "Maybe Barton too."

Clint would have ended up adopting a dog too.

"Barton wouldn've walked out with a dog," Steve said with a laugh. "Kitty bribed the squirrels so the dogs wouldn't make radio."

"...you know, I don't blame her," Tony said after a moment.

Steve laughed, leaning over to scritch Libby's back. "They are pretty cute."

"At least neither of them got hurt." And Patty was living a life of luxury during it, safe in Jan's walk-in closet.

"Not for Fee's lack of trying," Steve said, scowling fondly at the pup. "She tore that guy's pant leg up."

"Well, she was trying to help," Tony said loyally. "Maybe we get that bite suit sooner rather than later to direct it?"

"I think that's a good idea," Steve said, pulling off the ice pack again. "This feels better. Does it look better?"

Super-soldier metabolism was a scientific miracle because it did.

"Hold on, let me just--" Tony leaned over to kiss the spot. "There. Right as rain."

Steve laughed softly. "I should've gone with that from the start," he teased.

"Damn right you should have," Tony said with one proper kiss before he had to sit back because there were upset dogs in his lap.

Steve smiled as he pulled away. "So you've run the entire vet staff for criminal history and credit problems already, right?"

He knew how Tony reacted.

"It's just a small> background check!"

Steve hummed in that "I don't believe you" way. "Okay."

"It's this or finding a new place," Tony replied. "And I don't know anyone who is a vet and a superhero. Lawyers, doctors, fashion designers... yes. But no vets."

"That's really a gap needing to be filled," Steve said teasingly. "How do we recruit?"

"Oh, recruitment is your purview, not mine," Tony replied easily.

Steve laughed. "I'll start looking immediately," he said teasingly.

"You have my thanks," Tony said as Fee rolled onto her back to show off the neat new scar she was sporting.

"Hey, sweetheart," Steve said to Fee, scritching her nowhere near the scar. "You were very brave."

"At least we know she's a fighter." To a Steve degree.
