Stark Tower but Smallish [Sunday afternoon]

It had been weirdly awkward between Steve and Tony since the emotional baggage day. Tony had been working in the lab, Steve had been eating all the Moobyburgers working out, restocking the cheese fridge, and checking in with his colleagues at home.

But today, Father's Day, Steve was giving Tony another hour before going into the lab and dragging Tony out, feeding him, and making him talk. He missed them being them.

"A quick one," Steve said. "JARVIS, can you order us the usual Chinese, please?"

"Of course, Captain Rogers."

Tony shot one of the cameras a look like he was being betrayed. "I'll get to that."

Steve gave Tony a small smile. "It's just me," he said quietly.

Oh, watch how Tony's shoulders slumped because that was just so much worse. He was avoiding this for a reason, Steve!

But he got himself back to presentable quickly with a smile and a nod in return. "Don't eat all the ribs."

"No promises," Steve said. "There. Your incentive not to linger."

He was shamelessly playing a little dirty.

You underestimated how little Tony wanted to talk about this!

"Fifteen minutes."

He'd still be lingering as much as he could. Not looking in the mirror.

"Don't think I won't come in after you," Steve warned, smiling.

"That serious, huh?" He said, trying to make it a joke.

[heroic_jawline]

"That serious," Steve said, leaning his forehead into Tony's. "I've missed you."

"I've been here," Tony replied, enjoying that nearness despite himself.

"Not really," Steve said, kissing him softly.

"Sorry." He was just doing some rebuilding.

"I know," Steve said, kissing him again.

But everything was fine now, right?

"I still need to get that shower," he replied.

"And I'll still eat all of the ribs if you don't hurry up," Steve said.

Tony gave him a little shove so he could get to the elevator. "I'll be quick."

"Promise?" Steve asked, making earnest eye contact and not entirely unlike Patriot's puppy eyes.

That was cheating and you know it, Steve. "Promise."

Steve kissed him again. "Thank you."

"Ribs," Tony said, taking a deep breath to prepare himself for this whole... thing. "I'll know."

"I'll get blankets and wine," Steve said. "See you in fifteen minutes."

Tony was just going to scrub lab gunk off himself and do the very normal level of shower based disassociation that everyone did.

Right.

He joined Steve on the dot, hair damp and wearing some very basic pajamas after hesitation over some Captain America themed ones.

Steve smiled like he had been afraid Tony was going to disappear on him. "There's still some ribs and I left you an egg roll."

Look, it'd been pretty tempting to have some kind of emergency happen!

"Thanks," Tony said, stomach growling as he realized how hungry he was.

"Always," Steve said, holding the blanket up for Tony to get under.
