Stark Towerlet, Sunday morning [Very, very early]

Well, the good news is that none of Tony's sixteen Iron Man suits escaped the lab to wreak havoc on the island.

The bad news was everything else. The lab was destroyed, the dog was exhausted, and Steve was--not to put too fine a point on it--beat to hell and back. After the final suit had been disabled with Tony still inside it, knocked out and then tied up (and don't think that wasn't going to give Steve nightmares for the rest of his days)--Steve made his way (crawled. There had been crawling.) into the little medical clinic/closet Tony'd tucked into the back of the lab for dealing with lab accidents he didn't want Steve knowing about, barricaded the door, and passed out on the steel floor.

And that's where he still was, many hours later.

"Give me--I'll be right there," Tony promised, clambering out of the armor to stiffly make his way to the medical supplies. "I'm sorry, I'm so, so sorry," he said, prying the door open."

Steve was still lying on the floor with two black eyes, a split lip (that, at least, was healing up quickly), and curled up in a way that meant he was protecting broken ribs.

"Hell of a week, Tony."

"Here, c'mon," Tony said, slipping in to help him into a sitting up position. Tony was functioning on adrenaline and... well, whatever the armor injected him with once he came to! Probably more adrenaline, honestly. But he could get this figured out. Honest he could. "Let me--ah--let me."

Oh, he'd fucked up real bad here.

Steve closed his eyes and winced as his ribs did something inside of him they probably shouldn't be doing. "Easy. Capbuster was well named."

Tony's expression went brittle at that and he stopped just shy of touching him, hands hovering over visible bruises and contusions. "The clinic?" he asked, mentally asking JARVIS for an injury assessment here.

"I don't think they're equipped for supersoldiers," Steve said, reaching his hand--bruised knuckles and all--out to give Tony's fingers a quick squeeze.

"I'll get you something for the pain," he said, pulling away quickly for that. "J, tell me how much."

Because he at least knew the levels that worked on his Steve.

"Then we can get you into a bed."

"Bed sounds good," Steve admitted. "I could sleep for a week."

An appropriately measured syringe was produced from one of the kits that was probably... concerning any other day. "It'll help so we can wrap your ribs," Tony said, looking at him for permission.

Steve nodded. "It'll be nice to get off the floor."

Enjoy that sweet, sweet painkiller then, Steve.

"It won't last too long, you metabolize things too quickly," Tony said, focusing on the facts and mission at hand as he dug up bandages and scissors to get Steve's clothing off without making him move too much. This he could at least make amends with.

Steve took his first easy breath since Thursday and nodded. "Let's make it count, then."

Well, now Steve got to see the intense focus Tony normally applied to things like his work here as he was possibly too practiced at wrapping up broken rubs and messed sprained joints. "You're going to be okay," he said for himself and for Steve to hear it.

"I am," Steve agreed with a little grunt--the ribs hurt even through the pain killer. "And it was better than having the suits out there."

Tony didn't flinch at that because he was a goddamn adult who could handle this just fine. Wasn't even the first time he'd screwed up! But boy howdy did he find new and terrible ways to do so.

"I'll get you something to help you sleep too," he promised.

"Thanks," Steve said softly. "How are you doing? The suits stopped the damage, right?"

"I'm fine," Tony said, focusing on wrapping Steve's wrist now. "Hold still."

Steve stilled, watching Tony with cautious eyes.

"Let's get you something to eat too," Tony said, careful as he moved onto the next injury that needed dressing with intense focus. "And... and the dog. I'll order."

He was going to try to buy the Dodgers to fix this, wasn't he?

Steve's stomach made a deeply embarrassing gurgling noise. "I could eat," he admitted.

He was going to do something, that was for sure! You know, along side all the guilt. But he was doing just as fine as Steve was!

"Let's get you and Patty upstairs," Tony suggested, not quite meeting Steve's eyes once he was done wrapping up everything he could.

Steve took a deep breath, bracing for trying to stand up. "The left ankle's a little busted," he admitted quietly. "Walking's gonna be slow."

Ugh, a use for the elevator. Steve was going to focus his pent up anger on that thing.

Tony immediately ducked under Steve's arm to support him to get there. "I've got you."

Now. He had him now.

"I know," Steve said, sounding tired. He slid his arm around Tony's waist in return and stood up with nothing more than a slightly pained grunt of pure stubbornness.

Tony snagged a bottle of painkillers before they could make their way back into the ruined lab with a very tired corgi at their heels. Steve's heels, really.

"J, rush order on pizza, please."
