So the mission Steve had been called away to help on had turned into a complete shitshow. Hydra had been exactly where FRIDAY had said they would be, but they had called for reinforcements much faster than the Avengers had planned for. Tony'd had a suit that now needed major repairs, Sam was down a wing, Vision had missed with his laser...eye things..Steve still wasn't sure how that worked, and had been brooding at the back of the plane for hours about the hole he'd put into an apartment building's roof until Wanda sat with him.

Which reminded Steve to ask the Fandom Wanda about that whole deal.

Rather than head to the medical suite at headquarters, he asked to be let off in Fandom and so with a wave to the Quinjet as it took off, he limped his way back to the apartment.

"Tony?" he called as he came in the door. "I'm back!"

Hopefully he wouldn't freak out too much about his, apparently, extremely punchable face.

"Did your mission go we--" Tony stopped mid-sentence because he had his answer upon seeing Steve. "Okay, what happened?"

"We got outflanked," Steve said with a heavy sigh.

Tony sighed along with him, tilting Steve's face up to check out the bruises there. "You sure did."

Steve winced as he turned into Tony's hand. "Gonna have a hell of a shiner."

"Let's get some ice and we can see about that limp you're trying to hide, okay?" Tony asked.

Steve nodded tiredly. "Walls are heavy. Who knew?"

"Kitchen," Tony replied, shifting around to Steve's side to help him there.

Steve leaned into him far more than he would've allowed himself to do with anyone else.

"Everyone else okay?" Tony asked, carefully maneuvering them both around a very excited Patriot to see Steve back home again.

"I'm just tired," Steve said, clenching his jaw tightly. "They were apparently trying to bring some kind of tentacled alien through a portal? Why tentacles?"

"I've asked myself that same question a number of times and have yet to find a satisfying answer," Tony said, helping him into one of the chairs so he could go grab an ice pack and a towel to wrap it in.

"They know hydras have lots of heads and not legs, right?" Steve asked.

"Make sure to remind them of that next time," Tony suggested, putting the wrapped ice pack into Steve's hand before going to find some painkillers.

"I'm sure they'll appreciate that, open-minded as they are," Steve said.

"Oh, definitely," Tony called from the other room, returning with a bottle for him. "That's what everyone says about those Nazis, you know."

Steve snorted. "I definitely don't remember that part."

"Aspirin," Tony ordered. Even though it was mostly just a placebo for Steve. It made Tony feel better, at least! "Let me look at that ankle."

"It'll make you feel better?" Steve asked, lifting the ice pack to look at Tony.

"In injury and in health," Tony replied solemnly, already kneeling down to work Steve's boots off.

"The boots could probably use some tweaking," Steve said, closing his eyes.

"Noted," Tony said, checking his ankle carefully. "Any other parts of the uniform?"

[heroic_jawline]

"No, the rest did swell up against the wall," Steve said, "especially the helmet, so thank you."

"How long do I get to keep you for?" Tony asked, giving him a fond look for that.

[heroic_jawline]

"I took the week," Steve said, rolling the ankle. It was badly sprained, but not broken.

Tony pushed himself up for a kiss at that. "I'll wrap your ankle. Ask J to order some food. You'll need it to recover."
