Avengers Headquarters, New York [Wednesday afternoon]

Steve came into his room and put his shield in the corner and unzipped the uniform with a low sigh. The Tony here seemed to be in some kind of wordless tech battle with Steve's Tony at home and Steve's uniform was the new beneficiary of it. Today's experiement had been a new version of bullet-resistant mesh and so Steve had spent the better part of the morning getting shot at for science.

Tonight he had what promised to be an excruciatingly awkward dinner with the UN Ambassadors to Sokovia, Romania, and Russia--Natasha was coming along to translate and stop Steve from saying what he wanted to about Russia's oh-so-pious concern about the Avengers' overreach regarding foreign policy--and so he had an hour and a half to himself before he needed to get ready.

He locked the door, told FRIDAY to make sure no one disturbed him except for actual emergencies, and then flopped on the bed and called Tony.

"Steve!" Tony said as soon as he picked up the phone, sounding pleased to get the call.

"Hey, sweetheart," Steve said, grinning back. "Better week than the last one?"

"Well, it'd be better still with you here," he replied.

"I'll try to come home after my dinner but it might be late," Steve said.

"No, no," Tony said. "You'll need a good night's sleep to recover from the politicking."

"I have to smile for hours at the Russians," Steve whined.

"Just mirror whatever expression Natasha has." Well. "Unless it's flirty."

That would get awkward.

Steve laughed. "That's an approach I haven't tried," he teased.

"No seducing Russian diplomats," Tony replied with a laugh. "Though I'm sure you could manage it."

"I really couldn't," Steve said, laughing and settling in against his pillows. "Did the dry wall people show up?"

"Not for another hour." At least, that was the planned time.

Steve could almost audibly blush, did you know that, Tony?

"So we have some time for things?"

"Things?" Tony sat up immediately once that tone registered. "Oh, yes. Yes, of course!"

"Since you were a little...wound up last week," Steve teased.

"Oh, just me?" Tony asked with a laugh.

[heroic_jawline]

"That's my story," Steve said, grinning.

"You're a brat," Tony said with a laugh. "You alone?"

"With the door locked and a do not disturb request to FRIDAY," Steve said. "I'm all yours."

"Oh, I like the sound of that," Tony hummed, letting his voice drop low.

Steve shivered. "I thought you might," he admitted.

"What are you wearing?" Oh, going for a tried and true question.

"A new uniform," Steve said, fiddling with the zipper on it.

"Is it like that dark blue one?" Steve was very aware which one Tony liked on him best, right?

[heroic_jawline]

"It is," Steve said, smiling. "Tony reinforced the mesh around the abs again."

"Oh, should I be jealous?" He'd totally keep up this weird tech cold war, you know.
