Apartment Above Stark Industries, Saturday morning

Steve woke up early (Steve always woke up early) but this morning was different. He was in the world's best bed instead of his normal one, covered in blankets and just so warm. He sighed happily, snuggled into one of his three (!!!) pillows and closed his eyes again. This was the life.

Even if he was about 150 pounds lighter and three feet shorter than when he'd gone to sleep.

Steve hadn't noticed. The other person in bed probably had.

The other person in bed stretched out to find no giant super soldier, but a much smaller lump under the blanket pile. "JARVIS. Is it one of those weekends again?"

"It appears so, sir."

Which was why Tony made a disgruntled noise and covered his eyes to face the day.

Thank god he they bought inhalers for these occasions.

The sounds of other voices got Steve to bolt up out of the cozy nest, eyes going wide as he saw only one other person. "Is there an invisible person here?" he asked in a hilarious thick Brooklyn accent.

Tony's sulkiness over losing another weekend with adult Steve over with now, he sat up to look over at tiny him. "In a way," he replied. "That's JARVIS. Think of him as a... ghost butler of sorts."

"You hired a butler who's a ghost?"

You were the coolest person ever, Tony.

"Sir built me, in fact," JARVIS chimed in.

Somewhere in the house was the sound of frantic little paws on the floor, followed by a thump and then more frantic little paws when a corgi puppy showed up in the doorway to the bedroom because there were voices.

"Oh, you too," Tony said faintly.

"Do you have a dog, mister?" Steve asked, bouncing excitedly.

"He's yours too, actually," Tony said, getting out of bed as Patriot bounced at the side of it to attempt to get to them both with even shorter legs than normal.

"I have a dog?!" Steve repeated. "What's his name?"

"Patriot," he said, scooping the dog up so he could offer the squirming mass of furry affection in to Steve to hold next.

So he could get pictures, yes. Don't judge him.

"That's a strange name for a dog," Steve said, snuggling the puppy.

"He answers to it, so we let him keep it," Tony replied with another broad smile. "How about some breakfast. I think we have... um... I can make eggs."

He could! If he stayed focused.

"I like eggs," Steve said. "It's much better than oatmeal."

"Probably even have some bacon too." It would be a breakfast that Steve was better at making, but only when Tony wasn't distracting him with sleepy hugs.

Steve's eyes went huge. "Bacon?"

Bacon was a very special treat in his normal life.

"Bacon," he agreed. "C'mon, let's get you fed."

Because you needed all the food possible, Steve.

Steve, still cuddling Patriot, hopped out of bed. "Yay!"

"You can feed him while I get stuff started," Tony suggested.

"Does he get bacon too?" Steve asked.

[imafuturist]

"He can have a little." But they couldn't tell normal Steve about it. That'd work, right?

Patriot was practically peeing himself with excitement because he might be a puppy but he definitely remembered bacon.

"He seems pretty excited about that, mister."

[imafuturist]

"Well, bacon is a treat for him," Tony replied sagely. "We can only give him a little bit, so the rest will have to be eaten up by you and me."

Mostly Steve.

Steve nodded solemnly. "Do dogs get eggs, too?" he asked, setting Patriot on the ground and climbing up onto a stool to watch Tony burn things cook.

"Just a little." Look, maybe Tony needed some adult supervision too. Because that dog was getting basically a human breakfast too. He flashed a quick grin at the kid as he moved around to pull out the bacon and eggs for burning cooking.

Steve smiled back, kicking his short legs against the stool. "How long have you had a ghost butler?"

"Well, since I was in college," Tony said, pushing a button on the coffee maker to get it going before he died. Literally died. "I built him then."
