Apartment Above Stark Industries, Monday morning
Steve rolled over and turned off the alarm before it could go off, groaning quietly into his pillow. The weekend had been...not exactly what he'd needed...and his portal back up to Avengers Headquarters was opening in an hour.
He sat up and looked around for Patriot, but he seemed to have slept in his normal spot in the usual bed. Steve smiled to himself. Tony, as a teenager, had probably secretly loved that: someone to cuddle who was full of unconditional love.
He padded out to the kitchen to turn on the coffee maker before getting ready for his morning run. He'd have to cut it off early but his run was like Tony's first cup of coffee--he couldn't really function as a human without it.

But the fact that he knew Steve had to go back to his team first thing in the morning got him out if bed rather than wallowing.
"Hey," he muttered sleepily, plastering himself to Steve's back.

He'd just run more at the compound. Sam would be thrilled.

Tony beamed at him like he'd been told Christmas came early. "Gotta make the most of seeing you at my right age."

He could imagine any number of reasons for Howard to want to say they were closer friends than they had been, and most of them were entirely for Howard's benefit.

Tony offered him a quick smile, holding out his hand to him. "Coffee?"
