Steve stumbled back into the apartment covered in ash, blood and cockroach guts. "Okay, I still hate the underwater world the most, but this place is disturbing," he said, coughing as he removed his cowl and scowled at how gross his shield had gotten.

And ignoring the huge scratch on his arm, because Steve.

Steve made a face. "Tell him I'm in the kitchen where I won't ruin upholstery," he said stubbornly.

JARVIS was only judging you a little, Steve.

"Suit off," Tony ordered, sweeping in after him only moments later. "I'm disinfecting it. Possibly with fire. I'm not sure yet."

"It really wasn't that bad," Steve muttered, starting to unzip.

It had been a horror show.

Tony hummed in a way that very clearly said 'I'm humoring you.'

But he set the little kit down to immediately help Steve out of the suit.

Steve needed the help since that one arm was still bleeding.

"Thanks," he muttered, trying so badly to be a little graceful.

"What happened?" Tony asked with a sigh, gently peeling filthy, blood stained body armor off him.

"Herd of cockroaches," Steve said. "Or...pack? What do you call way, way too many roaches?" He shuddered. "Don't add that to the class. While they had me distracted, I got surrounded by some creepy, creepy faceless nurses."

"Next time I'm coming with you," Tony informed him, giving the suit a look of such disdain. He was already planning better gear.

Shudder.

"I was just making sure the students weren't doing something stupid."

And for the adrenaline rush. Cough.

"The nurses...I wasn't expecting that."

Tony shot him a knowing look before dropping the suit onto the floor. "Let me see your arm."

Had to have been deep to still look like that.

"It'll be fine," Steve said, holding his arm out and standing around in...pretty much nothing. "Just got cut deeper than I expected."

Oh no. Tony was so scandalized.

"Humor me," Tony said, the supplies to clean it.

"Oh, I am," Steve said.

Tony shot him a very unimpressed look for that. The sort he might break out for particularly dumb villains of the week.

And kindly made sure to really get that thing disinfected with some hydrogen peroxide.

Steve winced slightly as the peroxide stung the wound. "It's healing already," he said.

Which he knew wasn't the point.

He had a funny way of showing it! Tony would at least hide his injuries like the emotionally healthy person he was.

"You heal fast, yes," Tony granted him, agreeing only with basic facts as he got out the surgical glue. He sure had a lot of stuff for this, huh?

Steve dropped his head against Tony's shoulder in silent apology.

Tony let out a sigh, gently pressing the cut skin together so it would be closed up for the serum to take him the rest on the way.

"Thank you," Steve murmured into Tony's shirt. "I was being careful."

Tony sighed again, letting his hand rest on the back of Steve's head once he was certain the wound wasn't going to reopen.

"I'm sure you were. I just... You can't act like I'm crazy for being concerned here."

"You're not being crazy," Steve murmured. "But this is what I do. It makes me feel useful."

"I know that," Tony said, pulling away to clean up the bloody, gunk covered swabs he'd used to clean Steve's arm. "Christ, Steve. We're both that kind of person."

Also, both mother hens.

"You can go tomorrow, but only if you're in the full suit," Steve said.

Tony shot him an unimpressed look, lips tight as he shoved down a snarky response.

"Thank you for the permission," he grumbled.

Well, he tried not to be snarky at least. He tried.
